Donations of books, DVDs and CDs are always welcome!

Each year we receive hundreds of donated books, which we, in turn, resell to the public through our book sales. Your donation helps to provide support to the Les Cheneaux Community Library.

You can donate books & media at the circulation desk of the library during regular library hours. Please do not leave donated materials without notifying library staff.

We accept the following gently used items:

  • Hardcover and paperback books in GOOD CONDITION. No copyright dates prior to 2000

  • Commercially published media items including CDs, DVDs, books on CD, video games, LPs

  • Audio books on CD in GOOD CONDITION

  • Materials whose subject matter relates to local/state history in GOOD CONDITION

  • Puzzles that have all pieces

  • Please note: limit of 4 boxes per donation. Please check in at the circulation desk. Leave name and phone number for any materials that cannot be used so that they may be returned.

We do not accept:

  • Moldy, wet, smelly, torn or damaged books

  • Damaged books with broken binding, missing pages, highlighting, or with excessive writing in the text

  • Clearly outdated materials

  • Magazines

  • Travel guides, health/medical books, technology and technical books that are 5 or more years old

  • Readers Digest Condensed books

  • Non-commercially produced media

  • Computer software and equipment

  • Puzzles with missing pieces

  • Harlequin Romances or similar books

Why are we selective about free materials?

Donated materials aren’t actually free for us! Even though we are volunteers, there are many costs associated with accepting books and other materials, from time to evaluate and process materials, to allocating space for storage of donated items as well as disposal of unsold items.
